Configuring a Ruckus SmartZone to JumpCloud's RADIUS-as-a-Service

This is a full walkthrough of configuring JumpCloud's RADIUS-as-a-Service (RaaS) and a Ruckus SmartZone (SZ).

Settings and Configuration Notes

Encryption/Authentication Mode: WPA2 Enterprise

Server IP Addresses: For current RADIUS server IPs, see Configuring a Wireless Access Point (WAP), VPN or Router for JumpCloud's RADIUS 

RADIUS Port(s): 1812/UDP (Accounting port 1813 is not supported)

Shared Secret: The Shared Secret is created performing the steps in Adding, Editing & Deleting RADIUS Servers in JumpCloud, to view it:

  1. Login to https://console.jumpcloud.com/ as a JumpCloud Administrator user
  2. Click RADIUS from the left-hand navigation
  3. Click edit on the RADIUS server created
  4. The Shared Secret field will be displayed to the right, and you may click the eye icon to make the characters visible

Ruckus SmartZone Configuration

Steps to configure a Ruckus SmartZone is accurate as of 5/17/2018, if a discrepancy is found, please contact Support with the details.

Part 1: Authentication Profile

  1. Navigate a web browser to your Ruckus SmartZone configuration management page.
  2. Login with your Ruckus administrator username and password
  3. Click on Services & Profiles navigation element to expand the Services & Profiles options
  4. In the Services & Profiles  expanded options list select Authentication
  5. In the Authentication page select the tab for Proxy (SZ Authenticator)
  6. Press the + Create button
  7. Leave the Service Protocol set to RADIUS
  8. Type in a RADIUS server IP (Please refer to Configuring a Wireless Access Point (WAP), VPN or Router for JumpCloud's RADIUS for a list of our current server IP addresses)
  9. Paste in your JumpCloud shared secret for this Radius connection
  10. Optional but recommended Configure the Secondary Server with the second JumpCloud Radius IP   

Part 2: WLAN Configuration

  1. Navigate a web browser to your Ruckus SmartZone configuration management page.
  2. Log in with your Ruckus administrator username and password
  3. Select Wireless LANs from the left side navigation
  4. Click the + Create button
  5. Give the SSID a Name
  6. Under Authentication Options leave the Authentication Type set to the default: 'Standard Usage'
  7. Under Authentication Options change the Method to '802.1X.EAP'
  8. Under Encryption Options leave the Method set to the default: 'WPA2'
  1. Under Authentication & Accounting Server check the box for Use the Controller as Proxy 
  2. Under Authentication & Accounting Server select the JumpCloud Radius server you created in Part 1 from the drop-down  Select an authentication service
Your configuration is complete.

You are now ready for Configuring your WiFi Clients to use JumpCloud RADIUS
