Windows: Agent Won't Register (At All or Intermittently)

If your system time is more than 5 minutes faster than that served by ntp.org, the agent will be unable to register. This helps ensure that the certificates used in the two-way authenticated TLSv1 connection between the JumpCloud agent and JumpCloud's servers are valid when they are initially signed and not yet expired.

Symptoms of this problem are that the agent starts, but then fails with "Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly". Restarting the agent does not solve the issue.
 

Time Synchronization

 
  • Click on Start Menu and click into the Search field
  • Type 'Control Panel' and press the Enter key
  • (If viewing Control Panel by Category) Click 'Clock, Language, and Region'
  • Click on 'Date and Time'
  • Click on the Internet Time tab
  • Click "Change settings..."
  • Ensure that 'Synchronize with an Internet time server' is selected, and an NTP server is selected.
  • Click 'Update now'

Alternatively, you can initiate a sync (when NTP server is configured) from command-line:

\windows\system32\sc start w32time
w32tm /resync

Proceed to "Reinstalling Your Agent" after time synchronization if the agent was installed prior to the clock adjustment.


Reinstalling Your Agent


If you've already attempted to install the Windows agent, you will need to uninstall it before attempting a reinstall. 

Uninstall
  • Click the Start button
  • Type 'Control Panel' and press the Enter key
  • (If viewing Control Panel by Category) Click 'Programs'
  • Click 'Programs and Features'
  • Select the JumpCloud agent from the menu and click 'Uninstall'


If you installed it into its default location (C:\Program Files\JumpCloud), you can uninstall it from the command-line:

C:\Program Files\JumpCloud\unins000.exe

Once the agent has been uninstalled, you can then attempt a reinstallation.
