Using Windows Hello with JumpCloud

What is Microsoft® Windows® Hello and how do you enable it in Windows 10?

Does JumpCloud® support Windows Hello?

Yes. If the Windows system supports Windows Hello for local accounts, Jumpcloud can support Windows Hello as a login method with the synced password and required PIN.

Do any JumpCloud Policies control Windows Hello?

Yes. If you apply the Allow The Use Of Biometrics policy, and clear the Allow The Use Of Biometrics option (Image 1), the bound systems are prevented from using the Windows Biometrics Services that Windows Hello relies on. In this case, the system notifies users that “Windows Hello isn’t available on this device” (Image 2).

If the Allow The Use Of Biometrics policy is applied and the Allow The Use Of Biometrics option is selected, or the policy isn’t applied and the system supports Windows Hello, users can set up Windows Hello on their device (Image 3).

If Windows Hello is enabled, users may be required to set and use a pin.

Troubleshooting tips:

  • Consistently apply all Windows system updates.
  • Jumpcloud does not support Microsoft accounts. They shouldn’t be enabled or locally tied to the synced account.
