How Do I Change My JumpCloud User Account Password?

Need to change your JumpCloud® account password? Learn how in this article.

Things to keep in mind about your new password:
  • The passwords you create must adhere to the complexity settings your organization requires for user account passwords. You'll get an error if you attempt to create a non-compliant password. If you aren't sure what your organization requires for user account passwords, ask your IT administrator.
  • In addition to your organization's password complexity settings, your password also has to adhere to the password complexity settings of the applications you log in to from JumpCloud. If you need help determining the password complexity settings of the applications you use, ask your IT administrator.
  • If your account gives you access to Single Sign-On (SSO) applications, it may take several minutes for your password to update for your SSO applications after you change it in JumpCloud.

You can change your password several ways, depending on whether you're using a JumpCloud managed Mac® or Windows® computer. Use the following table to find out how you can change your password.

Your Computer System User Portal Login User Portal Security Settings JumpCloud App
Mac X X X*
Windows X X
Linux X X

*We recommend that users of JumpCloud managed Macs change their password in their JumpCloud Mac app.

Go to the following sections to learn how to change your password in a specific place:

Learn when you should change your password.

Change Your Password from the User Portal Login
To change your password from the User Portal Login:
  1. In a supported browser, go to the JumpCloud® User Portal: https://console.jumpcloud.com
If you're viewing the Admin Portal Login, click User Portal Login.
  2. Click Reset User Password.

The Reset Password Request panel appears.
  3. Enter your company email address, then click SEND RESET REQUEST.

You'll receive an email from JumpCloud with instructions for resetting your password.

Change Your Password in the User Portal's Security Settings

To change your password in the User Portal's Security Settings:
  1. In a supported browser, go to the JumpCloud® User Portal: https://console.jumpcloud.com
  2. Go to Security.
  3. Click RESET PASSWORD. If you're a Mac user, you're taken to a screen that shows you how to update your password in the JumpCloud Mac app. If you're a Windows or Linux user, you're taken to the Update Your Password screen.

  4. Enter your CURRENT PASSWORD, followed by your NEW PASSWORD. Enter the new password again to confirm it, then click UPDATE PASSWORD.

Change Your Password from the JumpCloud Mac App

If your Mac is managed by JumpCloud, we recommend using the Mac app to change your JumpCloud account password—doing it from here keeps your JumpCloud account and Mac system passwords in sync.

To change your password from the JumpCloud Mac app:

  1. Open the JumpCloud app from your Mac menu bar.

If you don’t see the app, it’s not enabled for your account. You can change your password from the User Portal.
  2. Enter your CURRENT PASSWORD, then your NEW PASSWORD. Confirm the new password, then click SAVE.

If you see a Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) field that asks you for an MFA token, you have MFA enabled on your JumpCloud account and need to enter a TOTP code with your new password. You should already have a TOTP app on your phone or desktop, like Google Authenticator, Duo Mobile, FreeOTP or Yubico Authenticator. Open your TOTP app, find your JumpCloud User MFA token, and enter the token you see.

Your password is reset for your computer and all other services that are connected to your JumpCloud account.

When should I change my JumpCloud user account password?

You need to change your JumpCloud user account password if:

  • You think or know your account has been compromised.
  • Your account password is expiring.

If your password is expiring in 7 days or less, you'll be notified every time you log in to your User Portal.

If you don't change your password by the end of this 7-day period:

  • You'll be locked out of your JumpCloud user account.
  • You won't be able to reach any resources tied to your JumpCloud account.
  • Your IT admin will have to unlock your account for you.
